Part 3 of Making Work Work for Me

The experiment is done.

I will continue to do what I need to do in order to get better.

But, what did I learn from this experiment?

Between the planning, doing, and development of systems, I have noticed there will always be distractions. I wanted to get so much more done, but with planned meetings, a loss of motivation, and putting a foundation for success in place, I noticed that I was still running around feeling lost. However, this awareness has given me more ideas to prepare myself for incidence like these. For instance:

-Generate multiple types or one comprehensive calendar that shows when projects are due, what events I have for the week, the time constraints of deadlines, and the projected amount of time I’m going to use on a project.

Research Series Week: Part 2 - Making Work Work for Me

We know how much work sucks, whether we want to admit it or not, we spend so much time there and results in being super tired when we finally get home. But, there is a way pass all of this, there is something we can do about this whole dilemma.

What I Learned from my Uncle

I was talking to my uncle a couple of months ago about how he gets so many things done at work. He told me that he doesn’t do much, he is the supervisor and has develop systems, templates, and whatever else anyone can think of that will help him not spend time doing the same shit over and over again. He laughed about my situation and told me that I need to do the same thing. I pushed it off and continued to do what I did.

So, my thing now is to spend as little time with the repetitive, mundane activities and task that I perform constantly. There are plenty, and should be easy with the paperwork-driven nature of my job. This type of work system isn’t going to change at all and what I have learned is that there isn’t a point in me changing the status quo, I have to just do what I can to make my work-life easier.

Being More Work Productive: How Am I Going to Achieve This?

From Adam McFarland’s Latest Blog Post:

“I value time and freedom over money. I didn’t leave my job to make more money…It was everything else that I wasn’t happy with – the purpose behind the work I was doing, the lack of freedom at a traditional 9 -5, and the bureaucracy of a system that prevented people from doing their best.”

Quote I left on his comment page:

“To me, there is no purpose in what I’m doing at work, but I can improve personally through it. ”

I have been meaning to do a post of this magnitude, but reading my friend’s Adam blog yesterday triggered me to write about it. My job pays the bills and allows me the freedom on the weekends to take trips, rest, or do whatever. It is though, the same thing over and over again.
