Making This Year Challenge A Little More Interesting: An Ultimatum
I’ve made up my decision. Well, after talking to a good friend about it all. I am giving myself an ultimatum and it wasn’t something I thought about ever since talking to him a couple of days ago.
I Learned Something Last Year Reading One of My Favorite Writers
Most people wouldn’t consider Steve Martin much of a writer. I didn’t, until I read 3 of his books last year. The guy is just talented in all ways and I encourage people to give him a shot–as a writer–if you are not fond of his films. While I was reading his non-fiction work about becoming a comedian, the section that stuck out to me was, well actually there were a couple:
Practicing the passion- Steve worked his ass off without the much thought of making money from it. He did multiple stand-ups, changed his act, talk to many people, watched and copy, to an extent, his favorite comedians.
Money wasn’t an issue until he couldn’t pay for his lifestyle- Steve started to make some money from his comedic act, but nothing to sustain a life of partying, women, traveling around the country, and whatever else he wanted to do. He knew he had to do something about it.
He gave himself an ultimatum- Steve was nearing the age of 30 and realized that his passion had to make him money or he had to do something else. He just wasn’t making enough money and had to be real with himself. I believe Steve gave himself 3 years or so to get paid.

Body Cleansing/Workout Challenge Before my Birthday
7:30 in the morning on a Saturday isn’t wahat I call sleeping in. When I sleep in, I don’t set my alarm, I just let my body wake up when it is ready, and when I that happens I fall back asleep.
The reason why I got up and went through what I did is by far one of the hardest challenges I’ve done this year (this and that).
How this Challenge got Started
When I was drinking a cider beer, Strongbow, a friend challenged me to a workout-get-in-shape-detox challenge. He used to be a trainer and helped many people lose weight. When somebody challenges me I like to prove them wrong. However, the funny thing about this situation was that I already told myself that I was going to go crazy with my workout for 2 weeks (birthday is on the 25th).
My original plain was to run in the morning and afternoon, which is 2.4 miles each stretch, and do some other workout exercises; that I’ve started and haven’t done in some time (squats and push-ups).
I still don’t know what my friend has in stored for me. He did mention that it will be 60% dietary and 40% exercise. From what I can gather right now, I think I will be doing tons of running, tons of fiber eating, and many hours of sleep (which I greatly need). Most of my work out will occur after work. I don’t know what else is going to be involved. However, already, I’m seeing improvements in my body and conditioning.

Ecommerce, it has begun.

It has begun, I have set up the account, thought of a name, and am ready for business. I saw what my brother was doing and knew it was time for me to get into the game of ecommerce. I rejected the notion of even participating, and even was almost bullied into doing something I didn’t want to do (at the time) by my dad.
What the Fuck am I Talking About?
I have joined the saturated field of ecommerce, and in this case, selling antique/vintage shoes and purses through Etsy.com.
Why?

Goals for the Rest of the Month…

In a couple of weeks I will be partaking in a shorten work-week schedule. I will get an extra day off, in return I will have to work 4 10-hour work days. It will take me sometime to get used to the longer days, but no time at all to get used to doing more writing, sleeping, working on my side business, or whatever with the off day. So, I have given myself another couple of crazy goals to do before this schedule kicks in at the beginning of next month.
Goals-
- A) Reach 100 pages in novel.
- B) Write 2 more essays for my portfolio.
- C) Finish first short story.
- D) Get Finances in order.
- E) Find the money source of my side business.
- F) Push girlfriend in the direction she wants to go in.
- G) Develop way to learn words.

April Book Review…
I was able to read 5 books in April. There were two non-fiction books and three novels. I learned something from every single one of them and now I’m ready for what my next big goal is going to be towards my passion. The books are: Outliers, Wild Mind, The Giver, The Pleasure of my Company, and Shopgirl. Some short, some long, but they all had a realness to them.
Right now I am in the phase of improving my writing. There are a couple of ways to improve one’s writing. I could either write as much as possible, write everyday, and believe it or not, read as many books. I have learned how people put together their sentences, use commas, colons, semicolons, and whatever punctuation known to man (and woman). I was constantly jotting down words I wasn’t familiar with (which is a lot), so I can go back and remember them for my writing and in everyday speech. I got a better idea of how people let their voice be heard through the story they were telling. And, the sure pleasure of sitting down and getting lost for a couple of hours.
Here is a quick report of the books I read.
Outliers:
So, What Was My Goal of The Day?
Exhaustion, commitment, the story, being lost, a goal that had to be completed was what I went through a couple of days ago. I am not surprised that I completed this goal, but more surprised with 2 things: it is intoxicating and Steve Martin is an unbelievable writer who I want to learn more from.

What The Hell is CCC and Why Am I Doing It?
Have you ever done something that you have no idea why you are doing it, but kept on doing so anyway? What did you learn from the experience, was it worth it? I have come to realize I am the extreme person who will try anything. I don’t care how hard it is, I just want to try it.
I have been on this workout craze for 2 weeks now and this is going to be the last week before I insert my full-body workout back into my regimen and cut down on the cardio. I don’t have a real reason why I have been working out like crazy for the past couple of weeks. It could be because just for the hell of it or to be ripped all over, which I am very close to being already. There really isn’t a real reason why I do crazy things for no reason at all, but I feel it challenges my body, mind, and whatever the else I learn from the whole experience.
CCC?
While I was listening to some up-tempo music writing in my journal the other day I decided I was going to go all out in my workout this week. I was going to do more than the 2 weeks combine to get myself looking the way I want. So I thought of the Crazy Cardio Challenge. Yep, I am going to do yet another crazy exreme experiment just for the hell of it. I don’t like weighing myself, so I will take a picture after I am done. I will also do some video footage of this experiment and probably some audio. I am going to be accountable for everything I do, so I will also use twitter to document my progress.

How Many Floors Can You Walk? I walked…
“Hey, you want to take the stairs? It won’t take long and we will beat all of these people trying to take the elevator”, a short guy with glasses said.
I looked at him and he was dead serious in a joking way. I looked around and thought it couldn’t hurt. I told him, “sure, why not”.
I ran up 5 flights of stairs and was out of energy, I was already sweating and walked the rest of the remaining 4 flights of stairs. The older gentleman was still running up the flight of stairs, he got off 2 floors up and at a quicker time. I was like, wtf, how did he do that?
I sat down in my chair and took a couple of puffs of doctor-approve air and drank tons of water. I didn’t think much of it until I arrived to work this past monday. I have already been doing some cardio for a week and a half already, but it seemed like nothing compared to the brief time struggling up the 9 flights of stairs. So yesterday I decided I would put in some extra cardio and walk up the stairs. I was going to just stop at the 15th floor, which is the same one I work on. But I kept going and going and going and going all the way to the 25th floor of the building. I felt I accomplished so much in that short, but felt long time, and wanted to do more exercises. I continued to walk done the stairs back to my cubicle on the 15th floor.
I told a couple of people what I done and they were shocked. Everyone was saying why did I do that, you are is such good shape already? I had no answer, I had no real reason why I traveled up to the top of the building via the stairs, it was something I just wanted to do. There are so many scenarios where I do things just for the hell of it and can’t put a finger on the why (taking the Nike saying literally, every time). So today I walked up the 25 floors of stairs (actually more, started in the basement) again and I timed myself. Less than 8 minutes up and a total of 10 minutes to get back down to my floor. I thought it would take longer, I thought the task would be a little harder with me being all sore and not stretching from the day before. Nope, it wasn’t, I didn’t use my puffer this time. I wanted to do it again, but my work clothes were getting wet because of the sweating and went ahead and ate my lunch (a hand full and a half of almonds and raisins and a cup of water). I think I am going to try to do this 2-3 times per week, just for the hell of it, and see what else I learn about myself.
