What Type of Photography is Right for My Business?
I don’t want to do weddings. I don’t want to do portraits, either. Studio work takes time, practice and money, same as sports photography.
I’m a picky individual and now that I’m starting to find my niche in this photography game of business, I’m realizing all of the areas that I just mentioned are people’s bread and butter, livelihood of providing themselves and family an income to survive and live off of. So, how do I get involved in the photography game when I don’t want to do what the majority of people are doing?
Lol, I don’t know yet. I’m still figuring that part out. For now, I like landscape, urban, travel, food, some portrait, product isn’t bad, macro, and abstract photography. The lesson here that I have to learn is that I can’t make somebody give me money on a skill they have no interest in or find value added to their respective need or want.
This is where I need to start, this is me defining my pitch to understand and get into the heads of my prospects.

This Year’s Challenge is Difficult
This challenge/goal this year is going to be rather difficult. I knew what I was getting myself into, but didn’t truly know what I was getting myself into. See, the reason why I say that is because this is something that doesn’t have a clear-cut path of accomplishing.
Business is some hard shit, just like becoming the writer. The thing that made becoming a writer more focus-driven and planned out was that all I had to was to write. Once I started writing (which I’m still doing this year) everything became aligned and I started to figure out what I needed to do in order to get better.
Becoming the businessman is something that needs to be thought out and it is more about my character than what I’m selling. I have the product already: my skills as a photographer–but I’m lacking in the areas of selling my idea to other people. It is something that will be a battle but once I continue to put myself in those atmosphere and push myself to get better, I will see my potential growing.
This First Month of Business
December: The Last Month of the Year
I actually wrote this post over a week ago. I need to be better about posting, I’ve gotten use to writing, saving and closing my computer to repeat the same task the next day. I now all I have been writing about lately is about my novel and how difficult it is and all. The next couple of post will be a change a pace–I’m not promising, though…
I’ve been busy lately. It is something I don’t want to explain right now, but life is moving and I’m also doing what I can with the amount of time I have for this year.
Last week felt tremendous, I was able to get rid of my weight set and felt energize because of doing so. I want to continue to get rid of stuff and declutter my apartment, which will in turn declutter my life.

On Business: My Brother is Kicking My Ass at Ecommerce
It has been well over 2 months since I have started my business experiment. Each day that passes by I get a clearer view of the next step with it. The post isn’t about me and the struggles I’m having to sell vintage wear (4), but about my bro, so here it is.
I didn’t think I would be saying this, but my youngest brother is kicking my ass at the ecommerce business of etsy.com. I don’t know how to explain it, but it is actually bitter-sweet at the same time. When I started, he was at 40 or so sells. I told him that I would catch him in no time—now he is well over 100 and making over a sell a day.
I didn’t know if he truly had it in him, I have been the one talking about business and expressing what I’ve done in the past, but just sitting back and watching him operate is quite amazing.

Business Experiment Has Begun: Etsy.com

I am officially in business! After nearly two weeks of getting my first batch of purses and handbags (22), I finally put all of them online. I haven’t gotten any emails or purchases yet but know with a little of marketing, the business will start to make me money.
I can’t tell much difference from one bag to the next, besides the colors of the bags.
It took me roughly 5 hours to photograph and upload the photos onto my computer, measure and write the descriptions, post onto Etsy. Right now I have a shitty system. I could have done everything in 3 hours.

Ecommerce, it has begun.

It has begun, I have set up the account, thought of a name, and am ready for business. I saw what my brother was doing and knew it was time for me to get into the game of ecommerce. I rejected the notion of even participating, and even was almost bullied into doing something I didn’t want to do (at the time) by my dad.
What the Fuck am I Talking About?
I have joined the saturated field of ecommerce, and in this case, selling antique/vintage shoes and purses through Etsy.com.
Why?

Book Review: Young Guns, The Fearless Entrepreneur’s Guide to Chasing Your Dreams and Breaking Out on Your Own
I’ll tell you right now, this review doesn’t do the actual reading of the book justice.
I’ve read many business books in my day. There have been some that have been a total waste of time and some that have helped me along my way of becoming an entrepreneur. This book, however, has been more of a gem than I ever thought possible. This book is less fluff and ‘Ra-Ra’ chatter, and more about an action plan, backed up with personal anecdotal stories from a person, who had a dream, thought, and passion for an idea and did something about it.
Young Guns is broke down into 16 chapters. Some of the chapters are:
The Decision (chapter 2)
The Big Idea (chapter 3)
Now is the Best Time to Start a Business says Robert Tuchman
This is a guest post by Robert Tuchman.
The task of starting a new business can be daunting. It takes a lot of time, responsibility, and effort. And with the state of national economy, starting your own business can be even harder. In this tough economic climate, there are a few things you can do to ease the financial burden and accomplish your entrepreneurial goals.
One thing you can do to brace yourself is to go back to your suppliers—to your telephone provider, landlord, car dealer—and renegotiate. Go to the people you are paying out to, and renegotiate on the contracts you had made with them. See if they are willing to cut you some slack. Although they are dealing with the same slow-down as you are, you will find that they are more willing to do you a favor than lose you as a customer.
I cannot stress enough the need for products you are selling to be presented in more detail. You must make the clients understand who you are and what your product is. Market better! Understand where people are coming from: be compassionate with their concerns. Be willing to work out payment plans for potential clients.
Save money using technology: take advantage of email and video conferencing. You should email documents rather than sending them via snail mail. This will save you in postage and in paper. Also, instead of driving or flying to meet with a client or vendor, you should videoconference with them. Both of these will save you time and money.

Business Idea Axed
I am at the point of my life where I see business ideas come and go. For the past 2 months I have been thinking, analyzing, talking to people, and being truly honest with myself on what it is that I want to do as a side business, and that will ultimately help me leave the corporate job that I have right now.
The great business idea that I had was recycling, in this case, paper. I thought of this idea while at work, while seeing the over flow of paper we accumulate during the day and the large amount of still being wasted, even when the big recycling bin in the community printer areas where full, got my mind going. I got to thinking that I could start with my office and form a contract with my current employer.
I began the research phase and got my girlfriend involved. The idea got rolling, ironically, on Earth Day. I printed out how to start a recycling business and more material that was 20 plus years old. I consulted a friend at work, if he knew anything about this, he pointed me into some dead-end directions.
I thought my idea was something of secrecy and didn’t want to tell much people. However, as time went on, I realized that this was some hard shit. I could tell millions of people, even people that lived in Houston, there would be no one starting a recycling business.

Goals for the Rest of the Month…

In a couple of weeks I will be partaking in a shorten work-week schedule. I will get an extra day off, in return I will have to work 4 10-hour work days. It will take me sometime to get used to the longer days, but no time at all to get used to doing more writing, sleeping, working on my side business, or whatever with the off day. So, I have given myself another couple of crazy goals to do before this schedule kicks in at the beginning of next month.
Goals-
- A) Reach 100 pages in novel.
- B) Write 2 more essays for my portfolio.
- C) Finish first short story.
- D) Get Finances in order.
- E) Find the money source of my side business.
- F) Push girlfriend in the direction she wants to go in.
- G) Develop way to learn words.
