Being More Work Productive: How Am I Going to Achieve This?

From Adam McFarland’s Latest Blog Post:

“I value time and freedom over money. I didn’t leave my job to make more money…It was everything else that I wasn’t happy with – the purpose behind the work I was doing, the lack of freedom at a traditional 9 -5, and the bureaucracy of a system that prevented people from doing their best.”

Quote I left on his comment page:

“To me, there is no purpose in what I’m doing at work, but I can improve personally through it. ”

I have been meaning to do a post of this magnitude, but reading my friend’s Adam blog yesterday triggered me to write about it. My job pays the bills and allows me the freedom on the weekends to take trips, rest, or do whatever. It is though, the same thing over and over again.

What I See - The J.O.B.

From the looks of this building it is scary, uninviting, and like a jail cell.

I go through the heavy, solid glass door, walk through the carnival style security bar, by elevator I arrive on the 15th floor, swipe my badge and my day officially begins.

Everyday is the same, for the most part. I pour smelly, seldom dirty city water into my Brita filter, make toast, and slowly start my working day.

My workplace consist of 13 men and 4 women. They range in age from 25 to 60 something. They have different characteristics that are cool, but at times piss me off.

My Upcoming Road Trip!

June 24th, 2009

My Friend Richard Doing His Thing…

Dedication

Goes home to write blog post at lunch because he wanted to.

Knows the field he is passionate about from salary cap numbers to scouting report of most of the players in the league.

Will watch all the games from start to finish and have the ability to give you a in depth summary chart of what the player or team is going to be like in the games to come.

After the end of the season, there are no more games to be played, with the busy off season soon to get rolling, he is breaking each team down with their needs for the upcoming draft!

If that isn’t passion, than I don’t know what it is. He can be spending our time doing other things to occupy our existence on earth. As everyone knows, my passion is writing, and I’m taking those steps to become the very best possible. However, it is a distinguished feeling when one notices the talent and love for something in someone else, and lets them know about it.

It Wasn’t Easy!

My Writing Teacher Lied to Me!

It’s true…

It all started almost a year ago, this was the time I was in between jobs and had 5 or so weeks off. I did some reading, tons of exercising, and writing here and there. I knew I was preparing myself to become a writer, before I made my declaration at the end of last year. For sure though, I knew I wanted to write fiction. I thought fiction would allow me to dream and become as creative as possible. So I signed up for a 5-week leisure learning fiction writing class.

“I want you guys to remember, that you are writers. Okay. Now repeat after me, I’M A WRITER, I’M A WRITER, I’M A WRITER…”, the writer teacher, who has written one novel said.

I believed everything she said to me: I felt strong, I felt I could write anything (well when I was in that room with 10 or so other people). Everyone came from different backgrounds, but as I looked around the room and noticed the confidence from the other people, who was also saying this bullshit of a mantra - I knew my life was going to be different from this point on!

Ironically speaking, I was listening to Stephen King’s audio book, which he explained the art of writing, during the time of my class. So, it was as if I was getting conflicting information from 2 published authors, one more famous and has written on the subject more than the other. I, being reasonable with myself, listened to both lessons.

What I See, Story 2 - Bus Transporation

This is a new series of post I will do on Friday that is called, What I See. During the week I will take photos of various events around me. I will provide a story behind the photo. This is essentially giving my readers a glimpse into my writing, the way I think, and also about my life. It wouldn’t be fair to only talk about writing, I have to be willing to show yall my pieces, too. Let me know what you think.

It’s hard getting up early in the morning. To be exact, around 4:30. Well more like 4:50 after all the snoozing is needed to convince myself to at least write. After I write I have to drag my ass into the shower, then probably make breakfast or get it on the way to work. I run, run, run to the bus stop, this is done because I have terrible time-management skills.

The bus, that object with 4 wheels, that is transportation to annoying and nice people. That grotesque-never-been-washed hand rail and those uncomfortable seats I have to force my not-flat-ass into every single morning. For the most part, I run to the bus stop because I’m either making sure I didn’t forget anything and making sure I set my a/c past 90 degrees (apartment is an oven when I get back). If I didn’t decide to use the bus I could either jog at a decent pace (30-35 minutes) or ride my road bike (15 minutes). I can’t eat on the bus or drink (I wouldn’t want to drink a thing on a bus that is constantly stopping and jerking my body forward), but I can listen to a podcast with total concentration, I can read a couple of pages of a novel or blog post via iphone, or observing others.

Goals for the Rest of the Month…

In a couple of weeks I will be partaking in a shorten work-week schedule. I will get an extra day off, in return I will have to work 4 10-hour work days. It will take me sometime to get used to the longer days, but no time at all to get used to doing more writing, sleeping, working on my side business, or whatever with the off day. So, I have given myself another couple of crazy goals to do before this schedule kicks in at the beginning of next month.

Goals-

  • A) Reach 100 pages in novel.
  • B) Write 2 more essays for my portfolio.
  • C) Finish first short story.
  • D) Get Finances in order.
  • E) Find the money source of my side business.
  • F) Push girlfriend in the direction she wants to go in.
  • G) Develop way to learn words.

My Other Addiction: Photography!

Why Photography?

It is a good idea, for anyone, who is starting to take something a little more serious than they usually do is to take baby steps. There is no reason to go fully overboard because one may find out it isn’t for them.

I did this very method of finding my passion through writing and now I have done so in the field of photography. I used to take photos with my crappy point and shoot camera. I would take the camera anywhere, I would take a photo a day, I took it even to work to see what interesting things I would capture. I had a great time doing so, but as months passed by I stopped using my camera, I just didn’t care anymore. I made the decision over the past Christmas break to get a present for myself. So I ended up getting a Nikon D60.

Great camera, bulking, but not unreasonable, and I could learn for days on how to use it properly. Everyone learns differently and the way I learn is by playing with things without using a manual. I finally hit a brick wall, so I read some of the manual, watched a couple of the videos, and read some information online. I even bought a bigger lense for my California trip so I could take better images far away. I was in the game and knew this was my second passion of active interest.

I have now committed to being a photographer. I have bought Apple Aperture, a 16 gig memory card, and a photography book that will teach me everything I need to know about photography. I can go to classes and get the experience there, but I want to do this on my own. This is the way I feel I will learn more efficiently and appreciate the art of photography.

48-hour Film Festival…sorta gone bad, but…

DSC_0533

This photo has nothing to deal with the post down below. I just wanted to let people know I went bald, actually a couple of weeks now. This new appearance has given me the balls to do more and to express myself. We will see how long it last, but I’m diggin it!

The Start of The Weekend…

Last Friday started as they all do: wake up, get dressed, run to the bus stop (because my time management skills suck), and so on and so forth. I already had my day figured and planned, and was looking forward to the events of the night. As the time was creepin noon I received calls from a random assortment of friends. But, there was one series of texts, emails, and calls that I knew that would alter Friday night.

What I See, Story 1- Mr. Homeless guy

DSC_0571

This is a new series of post I will do on friday that is called, What I See. During the week I will take photos of various events around me. I will provide a story behind the photo. This is essentially giving my readers a glimpse into my writing, the way I think, and also about my life. It wouldn’t be fair to only talk about writing, I have to be willing to show yall my pieces, too. Let me know what you think.

Mr. Homeless guy was packing up his belongings to begin his day. He had on some old adidas’ sneakers that barely held his feet in place, due to worn out shoe strings. He wore the same outfit every single day, however, whenever I pass him he didn’t smell of an odor. He is a man around the age of his mid 40’s to early 50’s, he is probably younger, but the weathered look of living on the streets for however long, has aged him.

Many people walk pass him, especially during the work-week, I also am a victim of passing him without any care.
