The word Career…

July 30th, 2006

Career is a challenge for me to accept, because it is used so many times to only someone’s occupation. Here are the definitions from dictionary.com on career:

    1. A chosen pursuit; a profession or occupation.
    2. The general course or progression of one’s working life or one’s professional achievements: an officer with a distinguished career; a teacher in the midst of a long career.
  1. A path or course, as of the sun through the heavens.
  2. Speed: “My hasting days fly on with full career” (John Milton).

9.26/10 people use career to define one’s working life and that mentality or paradigm has to change. There is more to life then the perceived definition of “career”. Many people choose to define their profession as the only thing that they know in life, however I truely believe that people have a more passion for other aspects of their lives. Don’t get me wrong, someone can truely have a skill for the job, but if it is only done to help yourself than it is pointless. So the next time someone ask me how my career is going I am going to tell them that “my mission in life is going great and that I will never rest to helping others achieve their full potentional out of life”.

My definition of a career: “Taking life by the horns and not letting anyone come in my way to achieving my biggest purpose (vague, yes, but it is up to the individual) in life.

The beginning.

Dreams into Reality

July 16th, 2006

Life… There are tons of things that can be done. There are tons of things that we do that we don’t feel like doing, but we still do. There are things we think of, but don’t have the passion to do. There are things we want to do, but don’t do. There is the old saying would of, should of, could of and that kind of thinking has to stop.

I love talking to people, seeing what they want out of life, getting an idea of what they like to do, and so on. I have realized that everybody doesn’t want my dream. However, I do want people to realize their own dreams and go for it. So that will be part of my life mission. To give people encouragement, direct them to oppurtinities they didn’t think that was possible, and simply enjoy the sweat, tears, joys, misfortunes, and satisfaction of living their dreams

The Importance of Meetings

July 11th, 2006

I didn’t like meetings much until recently. The reason why is because there was nothing really important that came afterwards. I would attend, listen, give my input, but nothing really was vivid. There have been so many meetings that I have gone to that didn’t need me being their and I could have been informed of what happen in the meeting. I think my biggest gripe of the whole meetings saga is that 9/10 nothing really got implemented and it was just a trick of showing that the company/organization cared about the employees/members.

However, just recently I have grown a better appreciation of meetings. The business ventures that I am involved in now have had a meeting a week and now that it is getting closer to launch day we are having meetings 2-3 times per week. The partners are giving feedback and advice and things are really getting done. It is really a breath of fresh air to see progress and to hold everyone accountable for their task at hand.

Bar-B que pits vs. Taco stands

July 2nd, 2006

It is crazy and amazing to see taco stands and bar-b que pits all over the place that I live. I get annoyed at times because there are so many of them. These mobile eateries have a mission to provide homemade food that people are interested in. They would set up shop anywhere there is high traffic or a nearby burger joint. The whole concept is truely entrepreneural and the simple fact that people are working for themselves. However, after a while all of the taco stands and bar-b que pits will become all the same and no one would care which one they purchase food from. Then again these eatery spots can be satisfied with the amount of traffic that they are generating and won’t care about expanding their market to make even more money.

So the lesson to take from these people are that if you have a plan or idea, then take charge and make it a reality, don’t let a chance pass you by.
